Mine was a wired environment, but had the same problem as wireless, because one machine is XP the other is Vista. I'm taking a stab in the dark here, but are you sure it was the desktop that returned access denied, or could it have been the router that would not allow I have spent 2 days trying to sort this out and went around and around in circles until I came across your post.
