Please post a response here to let others know of your success. I'll give the same suggestion I gave to the person with the CD-R/CD-RW problem. From what I have read it seems that this problem is only rectified by reinstalling Windows XP from scratch.:shock: So I thought I would post this and see if anyone at Nor does it seem to be specific to any one CD writing program. You should be able to get fairly low cost discs in bulk for any where from 15 to 50 cents each from fry's electronics, office depot, best buy, etc. I called again and at least got to report the problem but didn't get any technical help. It requires deleting upper/lowerfilter values in the registary and some COM+ changes to the Windows IMAPI CD burning engine. Some burners just don't get along with the native XP CD burning feature.

this should put paid to the problem and bear in mind that now windows xp will need at least sp1 but preferably sp2 installed. A computer-literate friend tried and found that the Windows burner kept crashing. I strongly suspect a program (antivirus, etc.) running in the background because people tend to have a favorite program that they install on their computers. Try another CD you know isn't closed.
Click on it to close this window. I then disconnected the DRW from the motherboard. and I now have another coaster. (the CD now hs 0 bytes free). CD burning software - the problem is consistent with the latest versions of Windows CD wizard, Roxio, Nero, And CD BurnerXP Pro.
I'm reasonably certain that it was SINCE that time that I got the above referenced windows update, which, when I checked out, was a not particularly well-documented item dated 2003. Thread Status: Not open for further replies.
