So I called Microsoft for free installation support. I tried the last suggestion but when I got to the DNS client it would not come up. I couldn't connect via ie8.

We uninstalled mywebsearch and ie started working again. Says to open those ports. ie8 loads web pages fine now. up vote 0 down vote favorite I have the exact opposite problem as this question, so the answer isn't applicable.

You do make a good point... I fixed it mostly on mine. I know that you've fixed your problem but, I'm interested if the problem still persists with the Chrome setup. After I uninstalled IE 7, IEFIX worked great.
