I can't get the router to allow me to access it's programing to change passwords etc. Configure the router to your needs. I put in the IP address that it came with and it just times out. Same goes for the modem. navigate to this website

Since you do use it, that clearly clearly doesn't fall under the "not in use" heading so turning it off at night would be problematic. Being a member gives you detailed monitoring of your requests.
