The application database recognised the sql server as (local) so I edited the .ini file and changed it to the sql server name and bingo! Hope this helps other people We went for a fresh installation of Windows 2003 server and now the IIS is not communicating with the SQL Server 2000 which is running on a seprerate Windows 2000 server. Very strange, but try installing your SQL Server with MSSQLSERVER instance name - it should work! Click Done.

I used Named Pipes on the 3 clients that did not work. Here's what's going on. Based on the latter error I listed, it would seem that it can connect to the server, but simply cannot find the instance (since I didn't specify one that time). Looking at the connection string, everything looked good except for the "Network". The connection on the server itself works thanks to the "Shared memory" protocol. Then go to properties for TCP/IP. Is it unethical to poorly translate an exam from Dutch to English and then present it to the English speaking students?
